Looking to make a beeline to your honey's heart? One if by Land, located on quiet Barrow Street in Aaron Burr's old carriage house, has been voted 'Most Romantic' by critics and commoners alike in every restaurant poll known to New Yorkers for years. This love shack crackles with the excitement of questions being popped and twinkles with diamond rings reflecting candlelight through champagne. The room is designed to put you in the mood for love, with two roaring fireplaces, abundant fresh flowers and a piano man tickling the ivories in the background. And the menu, which changes seasonally, is always full of aphrodisiacs like raw oysters, caviar and chocolate. While the high cost of the meal may dampen your spirits, One if by Land is usually reserved for nights when money is no object. The kitchen is particularly praised for its beef Wellington, a dish that's not so popular anymore, but who's to argue with the ghost of Aaron Burr? We all know what happened to Alexander Hamilton. -- Erin Franzman

Arrogant & Abrasive
By bohemians2 on 01/27/2008
This was our favorite place to come and when ever there was a special occasion, I took family and friends here. Such was the case when on June 9th. of 2007, I took my wife and step mother here to celebrate a birthday. We all ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing. Just as my step mother blew out the candles on the cake, some idiot from the desk came to us to say that they had other guests that needed our table and we were asked to leave. I still had the dessert wine in my hand. I paid the $527.00 check and we left. We have not been there since and we will never go back.

NOT SO ROMANTIC AS THEY SAY!
By qtnsxynurse on 11/26/2007
BEING TOLD AND READ THAT THIS IS THE MOST ROMANTIC RESTAURANT IN NEW YORK I CALLED UP TO SEE IF THEY HAVE OPEN RESERVATION ON THE SAME DAY I CALLED (3 HRS PRIOR) AND LUCKILY THEY HAVE OPEN TABLE AT 6PM. IT WAS A VERY SPECIAL OCCASION (ENGAGEMENT) SO MY GIRLFRIEND AND I THOUGHT THIS WILL BE JUST THE PLACE. WE GOT THERE 10 MINUTES EARLY BUT WAS SEATED RIGHT AWAY. THE TABLE I REQUESTED WAS WITH LITTLE PRIVACY AND LITTLE ROMANTIC, INDEED, WE WERE SEATED PER OUR REQUEST. WE CHECKED OUT THE MENU, WINE BY THE GLASS WAS NOT MUCH TO LOOKED AT. WE ORDERED THE PRE FIXE FOR $75.00, THE FOOD WAS GOOD, BUT THIS IS NO ROMANTIC PLACE TO CELEBRATE SOMETHING SPECIAL. BEHIND US WAS THE BIG ROUND TABLE WHERE THEY SEATED A HUGE FAMILY WITH KIDS (SO AS YOU CAN TELL BY THAT THE LOUDNESS OF THESE FAMILY). WILL NOT RECOMMEND AND WILL NOT RETURN EVEN FOR FREE.
