Located on a main artery of the historic Lower East Side, Noah's Ark Deli attracts bargain-hunters and tour groups, Wall Street execs and nearby workers, as well as congregation members from local temples. This is not your grandfather's glatt kosher: An offshoot of the owners' original spot in Teaneck, N.J., Noah's Ark boasts an innovative menu -- especially for a deli. The runaway success of the BBQ brisket of beef "shocked" them, and demand for the ribs has been "phenomenal." Yes, classics like brisket, corned beef and pastrami are still on the menu, but the specialty sandwiches (cilantro chicken breast in a tortilla with salsa; rare roast beef with a peppercorn horseradish sauce on focaccia; grilled portobello mushroom and guacamole on a whole wheat multi-grain baguette) are catching on fast. Prepared salads like potato, new-potato and coleslaw all appear glisteningly fresh, which is no surprise. After all, as the old Hebrew National ads would say, these folks answer to a higher authority -- which also explains the funky hours. -- Rhonda Markowitz

Food has changed
By cbs1019 on 12/29/2005
We were there a few times and the food was good enough to return again. The last time we were there the turkey was not turkey but processed instead. The amount of fries was half the portion and the onion rings were tasteless. It's a shame since this is the only kosher restaurant in the area. Food is overpriced and is quite frankly not worth it.
