Somewhere between a slice joint like John's and a Venetian palace like Batali's Del Posto is Naples 45. The first floor of the Met Life Building is not the first location you'd think of to try authentic Southern Italian cuisine, but that's exactly where this casual and expansive restaurant rests. Neither covered in cliched checkered table cloths nor burdened with pretentious dishes people only pretend to like, the eatery's simplicity starts with its design -- arched ceilings, white tiles, a colorful floor and plain wooden booths. Three wood-burning ovens cook the signature Pagnotelle (pizza bread sandwiches) and thin-crust Neapolitan pizzas, which are available in full pies or mezzo metro (half-meter) and with toppings like fennel, sausage and prosciutto. Along with the usual pastas and salads, sink into such specialties as swordfish paillard or market-fresh poached fish filet. Another surprise is a breakfast menu, with everything fresh from croissants to Naples eggs. An outdoor patio and long bar (with draft beer) really open the place up, spatially and socially, making it much more than an executive lunch stopover.

Best Pizza in NY!
By sunsplash517 on 10/18/2006
This authentic Naples pizza is amazing! You can taste how fresh and cared for each of the ingredients are. They even ship special water from out of state! The pizzas are hand-made by pizzaiole, baked in one of three wood-burning pizza ovens. The cheese, basil and sauce blend perfectly. If you're not into pizza, there are over 10 Piccoli Piatti for sharing and my boyfriend loves the pasta options. Main courses consist of a variety fish, chicken, meats and other seafood. This really is a can't miss! I love going here after work. It's convenient and a total escape from my hectic day with it's relaxing, open atmosphere. In the summer they also have a great patio. And don't miss the gift shop!

Best Pizza in Town!
By lspeier5 on 10/11/2006
No matter what you hear, Naples 45 is definitely the best pizza in New York! My office is in the Met Life building, and I go there all the time for the authentic pizza. It’s not your typical, greasy NY slice. The cheese is the freshest you’ll find and the crust is flawlessly cooked. They make rectangular pizzas exactly like the pizziolis do in Naples, Italy, and have received a seal of approval for authenticity. If you’re not a pizza fan, the salads are full of tasty ingredients, and my boyfriend’s a huge fan of the pasta dishes. They also have a shop full of gourmet delights, and they deliver!

I went to Naples 45 for a holiday party in December 2001. the food was very good and I was thinking of going back there for dinner which is why I came to check the review on Digital City. Well I remember the brick oven pizza was delicious and they had fresh salads and cheeses. I am looking forward to going back.
