There's no playing around at Monkey Town -- well, kind of. It's a playful space that's serious about art, with eclectic films, musical events, fine art and a four-screen screening room in the back that surrounds you with imagery. A sensual environment was what owner Montgomery Knott was going for, where music, art, food and film appeal to all the senses -- even the people sprawled on the perimeter of futons in the screening room look pretty comfortable. The art just doesn't stop, even in the toilet. The Bathroom Soundtrack Series adds drama to otherwise mundane ablutions and maintains the stimulation level you've become accustomed to. Which brings us to dinner: braised squid with pine nuts, raisins, bonito flakes and pearl cous cous; pulled pork with basmati rice and pickled vegetables; black bean, watercress, gorgonzola, and chipotle lasagna. We need go no further. Oh, and why Monkey Town? One answer is across the street.
