Rate and Write a Review Forget what you think you know about Southern cuisine and come eat with Miss Norma Jean. She owns this treasure in the heart of Harlem, frequented by locals like former President Bill Clinton and envied by mothers who cook this stuff at home. The dishes look simple until you take a bite. Rich spices turn ordinary short ribs into an intoxicating delight, thanks to a special sweet yet peppery North Carolinian barbecue sauce. A real find, this spot has become a favorite for BET staffers, whose studios are nearby. -- Sana Butler

Loved it!
Thought maybe my mother was back there cooking! Short Ribs were so tender, Mashed Potatoes sublime and the Stringbeans divine. Had room for the Red Velvet Cake and Cinnamon Coffee. Left floating!

Great Service, Good Food!
I agree with the reviewer who said the food was good but the service was better. I would frequent this restaurant when I was in New York, and found the food good, with quality ingredients, but the kind staff was made this place a favorite. Don't laugh--service can make or break a restaurant.
.
The best thing about this restaurant was the service. None of that typical Soul Food restaurant attitude that you get at so many places. The food was pretty good as well. Not the absolute best but worth a trip if you're in the City.
My Review....
This place is great. The food is exceptional.I find the portions are more than enough. But Nitaquell's "PROPORTION"is just great, only in NY, you can't make this shi* up. Must be a product of our public school system.
