The only ruined thing you'll see at Maya is the memories of all the Mexican restaurants you used to go to. Even without its legendary bar -- which pours out over 100 types of tequilas and serves rock-bowled homemade guacamole -- Acapulco-native chef-owner Richard Sandoval's upscale eatery is hands down one of the finest in the city. Combining hands-up festivities with low-key intimacy, the Chapultepec dining room is hued in light pastels, with wooden floors, iron stools and authentic folk art and artifacts. Choices abound, but start with pulpo Azteca (crispy octopus with roasted plantains) and zucchini quesadillas, move on to tamarind glazed tuna or Tampiquena (grilled butterflied filet mignon), and finish with rice pudding or caramelized banana cheesecake. Romantic and celebratory, it'll take at least 25 visits to sample all the tequila. Sandoval also runs Pampano with Placido Domingo. -- Yon Motskin

I CAN'T SAY HOW ENOUGH WHAT BAD RATINGS THIS PLACE DESERVES. IT IS ALWAYS A DISSAPOINTMENT. THE SERVICES IS TERRIBLE. THEY OVERBOOK RESERVATIONS LIKE AN AIRLINE. THE PLACE IS 100 DEGREES. THE FOOD IS WEAK. THE DRINKS ARE WATERED DOWN. AND ITS NOT EVEN CHEAP. AVOID THIS PLACE.

Everything is wonderful. The food is great..try the shrimp and lobster! The drinks are awesome too, the mojitos are awesome and so are their special margaritas. Don't forget to get the guacamole to start!

I'm addicted to Maya, i think this is the best mexican restaurant in the world. The sanagria is out of this world and the food is even better. The service is excellent and the decor is beautiful. I can't get enough of this place!!!!!

Hpbriffel's Review
By hpbriffel on 11/19/2003
Reviews may have made restaurant busy.Kitchen was unable to handle crowd 10/15/03. Service was very friendly but food came to table cold. Fish and steak entrees were returned to kitchen but came back cold again. Oyster starter,3 luke-warm pieces, and cold fried rock shrimp were edible but not worthy of rave reviews. Staff was honorable and waived all charges, but we would have preferred a satisfying night out to dinner. Went home and had left-over bagels.
