A loyal following braves the industrial wasteland of Long Island City for a taste of Ida Cerbone's sauce made from family-grown tomatoes. In fact, with extra-virgin unfiltered olive oil and wine from the family vineyard in Italy, and many of the pickled vegetables put up by Ida each summer, this is as close to a real family osteria as you can get in Queens-or anywhere in New York for that matter. Enjoy such specialties as shrimp Ida, roast suckling pig, homemade pasta and gnocchi and garlicky broccoli rabe. This very casual and off-the-beaten path restaurant has a loyal following who are treated like members of the family. Unexpectedly for such a humble spot, there is an excellent wine list, with many fairly priced bottles that perfectly complement the hearty fare.

NEGLECTFUL SERVICE 12/22/2006
By joehank3 on 12/29/2006
The food was delicious, but the service gleefully horrendous. We were made to wait for a table for 2 next to a wall next to the kitchen portal, while numerous tables for 4 remained vacant. Then we waited for 15 minutes for a menu after being seated, and then another 15 before anyone took our order. After we finished our meal, we had planned on having coffee & Sambucca, but no one ever came by. Finally, we flagged down a waiter & asked for the check. If they treat you like family here, we must have been the unwanted step children. We will not be going back.

MuchitaGee's Review

The food critic for Newsday promised me the treat of a lifetime. She was not lying. She told Ida to bring what she thought would fit the occasion. I have never had a better meal in all of my years on earth. I recommend Manducatis to all of my friends every chance I get and I live in Long Island City where there are plenty of Italian restaurants.
