Named after a busy former market in central Paris, Les Halles is everything you hope and dream of in an authentic French brasserie: down-to-earth, meaty and traditional. Once you take a gander at executive chef Anthony Bourdain's sense of space, place and taste, you'll feel like you've stepped into the post-war romance of low-numbered arrondissements. The mahogany wood, checkered tiling, yellow-crusted hues and old-style adverts on the walls imbue the room with a classic atmosphere. The working butcher shop in front is indicative of the eatery's commitment to freshness. This is a carnivore's carnival, replete with traditional pig's feet, blood sausage, smoked pork loin and cassoulet. Mentioning that the menu includes steak frites, Bordeaux reds and escargot may seem redundant, especially if you've read Bourdain's bestseller -- which he penned himself -- 'Kitchen Confidential.' -- Yon Motskin

We'll be back!!!!!
By jerrytpt on 08/14/2006
Our experience at the Park Ave. South Les Halle was absolutely fabulous!!!!. We eat out 6 nites a week, so we do know quality, and were lucky enough to get a reservation on a Sat. nite on short notice. From the moment we walked in, we were pleasantly greeted, shown right to a table (of our choice), and our server came right over and introduced herself and recited the specials....Our meal and our bottle of wine were terrific. The entire staff, servers, bus people, and certainly the kitchen staff should be highly commended.... Jerry Austin

will make you ill

I have been there several times with small groups for work and each time, I and two or three others suffered from food poisoning. I don't know if the kitchen spits in the food or if the products or old. I will never ever go there again. I suggest no one else does either.
