The owner is French. The staff is French. Even the patrons -- they're French, and that should say something about the quality of this bistro's cuisine. Much like the vintage poster by the staircase (promoting the French avant-garde comedy for which the bistro was named), La Bonne Soupe radiates with authenticity. Unfortunately, that goes for the service as well, which at times can be stereotypically poor. One bite of that popular fondue, however, and you'll forget all about it. The menu features an ever-changing selection of delicious soups, as well as quiches, omelets, steaks and a variety of crepes. And of course, there's escargot and chocolate mousse. Inside the bistro it's close quarters made cozy with dim lights, wood floors, paintings and red-checkered tablecloths. A small and intimate bar in the back is great for sipping wines while listening to other diners parlent francais. -- Sheila Erimez
