As the name suggests, Klee is an artful and alpine-influenced modern brasserie in Chelsea. It refers to both the Swiss expressionist Paul Klee and the clover found in the mountains near the chef's native Austria. The clean, mirrored, lodge-like interior is elegant and casual, and doesn't hide anything with an open kitchen. The chef, who worked under Jean-Georges and Bouley before running Fresh, creates a modern American menu with stopovers in Europe. Start with Alsatian thin crust pizza and Kurobuta pork tonnato, followed by a Long Island duckling slow roasted in the wood stone oven or a Wagyu hangar steak charred on the mesquite grill. Viennese fried chicken and wiener schnitzel remind him of home, as do a fine selection of aged cheeses and wines at the inviting bar.
