Rate and Write a Review In a historical-landmark building, Keen's is worth a visit just to taste the signature fist-sized mutton chop and to see the 90,000 pieces of memorabilia including the play bill held by Abraham Lincoln when he was assassinated. As NY Police Commissioner before his presidency, Teddy Roosevelt dined there regularly amidst the Alexander Pope paintings, Mason and Hamlin grand piano, the largest pipe collection in the world, theater posters and programs. Opened in 1885 as a clubby garment-center haunt, Keen's does a steady lunch-hour business (reservations are a must), as does the tap room. We start with the Maryland lump crabcakes, and whenever we pass up the famous chop it's for the aged prime porterhouse steak. For dessert, try the warm deep-dish apple pie. There are over 150 reasonably priced bottles on the wine list, and a large collection of single-malt Scotches.
