The Khmer name for Cambodia, Kampuchea brings Southeast Asian street food to the streets of the Lower East Side. In a small, lively and warm space, chef Ratha Chau focuses on dishes from his native "bottom" Cambodia (rice is a key ingredient), as well as similar tastes from Thailand and Vietnam. Some of the signature sections of the menu are stews and Pho (noodle soups), such as the Phom Pheng and the Bwah Moun porridge; or, choose your own beef, chicken and vegetables for the Make Your Own Pho. Chau's days at Fleur de Sel and Boston's Elephant Walk have inspired French dishes like spicy shrimp-filled crepes and an international wine list, but Asian remains with traditional Cambodian offerings like pork meatball banh mi and monkfish satay.
