Spoiler alert: This restaurant contains some meat! Outposts of vegetarian fare are surprisingly few and far between in Manhattan, but everyone from bike-courier dudes to TV stars drops by Josie's for chef Louis Lanza's mixture of super-healthy and not-exactly-vegetarian cuisine: dairy-free pastas, seared yellowfin burgers with miso-wasabi sauce, sushi rolls of portabella mushrooms, greens and brown rice, and organic poultry. Drinks are fashioned with triple-filtered water, of course. There's a bohemian undercurrent on the Upper West Side that makes this second only to the Village for vegetarian grazing. Say, isn't that 'Northern Exposure' and 'NUMB3RS' star Rob Morrow? Why, yes: he's co-owner of the place. Weirdest thing on the menu? Probably the 'Popeye loaf,' composed of ground chicken mixed with organic spinach, Italian spices, soy parmesan, organic barbecue sauce, and mashed sweet potatoes, served with sun-dried cranberries.

Who knew healthy food could be so good. Lunch was fantastic, a warm salad that was nirvana and the service was great. Highly recommend. What a change from steak and potatoes

the even newer 3rd avenue(mid 30's) location is provides even more of an ambiance. for food on the go there is a 'fast-food' location next door by the name of "better burger" that is connected to josies
