Internationally hailed as the enfant terrible of modern-day cooking, Jean-Georges Vongerichten is perhaps one of the best-known and highly regarded chefs in the world. His Eastern-influenced French restaurants -- which also include Vong, Mercer Kitchen, JoJo and Spice Market -- keep him globetrotting at a feverish pace, but his heart still lies in this four-star French affair. Situated in a smallish, spare and elegant Adam Tihany-designed quarter of the Trump International Hotel on Central Park West, the earthy, naturally lit dining room ensures that your focus is on one thing: the food. Eschewing stuffy and complicated dishes, the menu offers clean, simple and aromatic ingredients -- like vegetable juices, fruit essences, light broths and herb vinaigrettes -- in place of cream, butter and traditional meat stocks. The garlic soup with lemon thyme and sauteed frogs legs is a vibrant dish, and other selections -- marinated tuna and hamachi, duck steak, rack of lamb and Arctic char -- are sure to count among the best things you've ever eaten.

A most memorable meal
By Annascatering on 07/17/2008
I've been a caterer for over twenty years, and have eaten out a lot over the years. This was definitely one of the best food experiences ever. Our table of six foodies ordered sixteen different items (we doubled up on the lobster and shrimp), and only the rabbit was a disappointment. Nearly every dish was delicious, beautiful to look at, and intellectually stimulating. It was fun for us to sit there and guess at what was in each dish and how it was done. A few of the items were truly sublime; you just wanted to let it sit there on your tongue and savor it forever. The service was friendly and professional. I can't wait to go back!

Very poor quality of service
By lmalassis on 09/23/2007
Although the food is good, the quality of service is FAR from the standard of the industry for a 3 star Michelin. * No table cloth, but plastic table set * Table so small the waiter has to put the butter cup in front of my nose * No sense of hygiene: It's fancy to use spoons to remove the napkins, but oo bad it is to put it directly on the menu, generations of customers have been touching with their usually unwashed hands * No sense of politeness: I did not hear any "sorry, my aplogy, beg your pardon' when the waiters started to try make some room on the table * No organization: the only solution the Maitre d'hotel offered me when asking to change table was to come back 1h45 later. * No distinction: they forget to bring back the change, as if 35%tip was a normal amount Hence, the owner should we more carefull about the training of its staff if he wants to continue claiming his 3 stars. I have known better 1 star michelin.

He finally got it right
By alanh67 on 03/04/2005
The last time I dined at Jean Georges was the same day he received a 4 star review from the New York Times. It was good, but far from a 4 star dining experience. I was in no hurry to return. I was invited to dine there recently, and now it deserves its 4 stars (and on digital city - 5 stars). The winter tasting menu was absolutely sublime, and the service was warm, friendly and unobstrusive.
