Jacques Torres Chocolate doesn't have Oompa-Loompas, but that's about the only spectacle missing from this chocolate factory and cafe. The chocolatier made his name at Le Cirque, but really came into his own in this DUMBO storefront, with its glass-walled peek into the master's pristine laboratory. You'll see an assembly line of chocolatiers in white lab coats with chocolate dripping from their pastry brushes, and conveyor belts of chocolate truffles in flavors ranging from traditional hazlenut to racy cardamom. The spicy hot chocolate eats like a meal, but the regular hot chocolate also boasts the consistency of a hearty soup. Paired with a chocolate croissant, there's no better way to sin.

Not Special

The chocolate is okay and pedestrian. I am not sure why there is such a fuss. Many other places in NYC to get much better chocolate.

not very impressed
By dinamele on 01/08/2007
I am not as easily impressed by a name like the rest of america. Jacques made a name for himself at le cirque with his boyish good looks, the help of FCI and his talent, he was able to have a successful chocolate buissness. It goes to show you pr works wonders because his chocolates are just ok. He uses cheap chocolate that has no shine and an awful taste. His packaging is ugly and cheap and his hot chocolate should be called hot pudding instead. Get with it America where are your taste buds? Do you think he would have been this successful if he stayed in France?Back home he would have been any struggling chef. God bless America!

No one can compare

When we visit NYC (at least four times a year), this is a must stop for us. I have tasted chocolates from many, many shoppes and none can compare to the chocolate of Jacque Torres. What a treat to see Mr. Torres in action at the Chocolate Haven Store! We have been know to visit both of Jacque's stores (one in Brooklyn just under the Brooklyn Bridge) in the same day! Everything Jacque makes is a taste sensation. When we're not in New York, I can order on line at Mr. Chocolate.com The most special people in my life get a gift of chocolate created by Jacque Torres! PS His big block of chocolate is an amazing buy. The only chocolate to use in your chocolate recipes.

This is not a restaurant - although you may prefer to eat all 3 courses of your next meal here. Watch chocolate being made just like Lucy & Ethel used to do!
