In Buenos Aires, a contemporary eatery is not a bistro, but a modern-looking nouveau-style restaurant serving traditional Latin cuisine. That's the model for this ambitiously authentic Argentinean spot, where almost everything (including chefs and designers) has been imported from the South American country. La pacho wood floors, tree branch and dried-leather artwork from Santiago, and a couple of columns wrapped in handmade Cachi carpets are a few of the charming touches. The menu is sliced up into three parts: selections from the kitchen, grill and brick oven, the latter of which is a traditional touchstone of Argentinean cuisine, and absent from other New York Latin kitchens. The signature dish here is, of course, osso bucco, a Patagonia-style rack of lamb marinated for 24 hours in spices, white wine and cracked honey. Other offerings include ceviche, Andian-style tuna carpaccio, morcilla chorizo (blood sausages), short ribs and sea bass with hearts of palm. The mood is informal and lively, further fueled by Mendoza region grape-blend wines, mate-martinis and a late-night tango soundtrack.

NICE PLACE BAD FOOD
By argmarce on 06/26/2007
THIS PLACE TO BE ARGENTINIAN HAS ALMOST NOTHING FROM THERE. FOOD IS TO FANCY BUT WINE IS GOOD. ONLY THE NAME OF THE RESTAURANT IS ARGENTINIAN, THAT IS SAD.

Full of Flavor

A wonderfully relaxing atmosphere with flavorful dishes unique to New York. The staff is helpful but not intrusive and the food is fantastic. Also, probably one of the best dry martinis I've ever had, kudos to the bartender.

excellent food, lousey portion
By dpdreamweaver on 03/12/2006
Argentine restaurants are known for their great wines, breads and portions of food and although the Flavors here are good to excellent on the pallet chart, the portions served were lacking unlike the traditional Argentine Restaurant. The wine and ambiance, excellent, the bread, very common, and the food, very good in flavor; but the portions were scanty. For example: we ordered a variety of foods; the empanadas are tiny a Mircoscopic size. One of the entrees ordered was the skirt steak and expected was a whole skirt steak, as serve in other Argentine restaurants, but the steak received would has made a good appetizer. I was looking forward to a tradition dessert of Pancakes con dulce de leche and it was not on the menu. After expecting a more Argentine flavor we were somewhat disappointed it did not capture “The Traditional Argentine Restaurant.”
