When talking about the boot of Southern Italy, you usually hear about the ball or the toe. But this upscale Gramercy Park restaurant presents cuisine from the Puglia (Apulia) region, better known as the heel, and is an ideal way to sample something non-Sicilian while still remaining within the Italian food group. The dining room is spacious, warm and wood-paneled, with a fireplace and visible grill that keep cold days cooking. With the area's proximity to water, Apulian cuisine is no stranger to seafood, with signatures like wild striped bass, roasted monkfish or grilled baby octopus. Wild game, Sardinian dumplings and rabbit pate are also popular selections. For groups or celebrations, there's a pleasant outdoor garden, the adjacent enoteca wine bar and lounge, as well as Vinoteca, a two-room winery used for tastings and classes. I Trulli is also known for its homemade (in Italy) olive oil, which can be downed in the restaurant or bought bottled for endless dipping pleasure at home.

This could possibly be the best Italian restaurant in all of NYC. The service was great and the atmosphere wonderful. The food is totally exceptional, like nothing you've tasted before. The menu is enticing and delivers perfectly. A must, must, must eating adventure

OH HAS IT TURNED BAD! I USE TO COME HERE AND THINK IT WAS WELL DONE "PAESNTE" CUISINE. THE PLACE WAS BUSTLING AND THE MEATS WERE GRILLING ON THE OPEN HEARTH. THE STAFF USED TO BE ATTENTIVE AND SOMEWHAT iTALIAN---IT HAS ALL CHANGED! I NOTICD THIS IN JUNE BUT THOUGHT IT WAS AN OFF NIGHT BUT AFTER LAST NIGHT I WILL NOT RETURN. THESES ARE MY EXPERIENCES-THE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY-A DINING ROOM WAS CLOSED DOWN AND THE OUTSIDE DINING ON A GORGEOUS NITE WAS SPARSE WITH DINERS -THE SERVICE WAS ULTRA RUSHED! THE MENUS WERE GIVEN WHEN WE SAT DOWN BEFORE DRINK ORDERS -THE SPECIALS WERE FEW AND THE MENU LACKED CREATIVITY BUT THEN SO DID THE FOOD -IAM VERY SURE THE WAITERS WERE MIDDLE EUROPEAN AND NOT ITALIAN AND THERE WAS NO APPEAL TO THE DESCRIPTION OF THE FEW SPECIAL FOODS. -THE SERVICE WAS UGLY OUR APPETIZER (PASTA) CAME OUT 5MIN AFTER WE ORDERED AND THE ENTREE VERY SHORTLY AFTER THE PASTA DISHES WERE REMOVED----ARE THE MEALS PRE-COOKED? WE DID NOT STAY FOR DESSERT I WILL NOT GO BACK. IT SEEMS IF THERE IS A CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT AND THE FOOD IS APUIAN THEMED WITHOUT A HINT OF ITALIANISSIMO. WE WERE A PARTY OF 4 WHO ARRIVED AT 7:20 AND WERE READY TO LEAVE AT 8:45 THE ENOTECA NEXT DOOR WAS EVEN EMPTY
