Still, "New York's wurst restaurant" is simple and straightforward and remains one of the few places to get decent, if greasy and not always authentic, German food. There's a whole camp of wurst sausages available, including knockwurst (beef and pork) and alpenwurst (veal and turkey). The fish dishes, like herring or smoked pepperfish, are heavy and served with sides like red cabbage, string beans and sauerkraut. The music is often loud, and the tables unstable, but you won't really notice after a few steins from their deep selection of German draft, like Dortmunder, Hofbraeuhaus or Spaten Munich Lager.
