Tucked away in the shadow of the Puck Building, Ghenet is a real find. The walls display a selection of rotating art mostly from artists of African descent and the servers are truly hospitable. To dine at Ghenet is to enjoy the taste of freedom-from utensils, that is. As is traditional in Ethiopian culture, all of the food is served on a communal plate atop spongy injera bread, more of which is served on the side to scoop up dollops of the different stewed dishes. A combination platter is a good way to sample a variety of dishes, slow-cooked lentils and lamb stew will awaken sensations in your taste buds and collard greens are stewed with spices until rich and fragrant. Unlike at many Ethiopian eateries, good wine pairings are recommended with each dish.

Great atmosphere!
By laeggie on 05/09/2006
My husband has always raved about the great Ethiopian food he ate down in D.C. so we've been searching for one in Manhattan and were so happy to find Ghenet. We were seated right away, service was prompt, food was excellent (and plentiful) and the atmosphere was really lively and fun.
