If you want to try the best bagels New York has to offer, this is the place. (One client reportedly packed two suitcases of Ess-A-Bagels for his Alaska trip.) Bagels here are cut and rolled by hand, and they're low in salt and sugar-free. They're also huge. Flavors include pumpernickel, pumpernickel-raisin, cinnamon-raisin, sesame, plain, onion, whole-wheat, poppy seed, garlic and salt. Recommended are the many cream cheeses (vegetable, salmon and more) and the various spreads, particularly the whitefish salad. Ess-A-Bagel's bagels are kosher, and you can also buy them at City Bakery, the Eureka Joe Coffee Bar and Cafe Society.
