At his eponymous restaurant, celebrity chef Frank Crispo, formerly of Chefs Cuisiniers Club and Zeppole, revisits the restaurant circuit. This time, he brings an understated take on Italian cuisine fused with a decidedly personal touch, as is evidenced by the chef's "stamp of approval" -- the restaurant's thumbprint logo -- that epitomizes a hands-on labor of love. Located on a dingy stretch of 14th St. where trendy Chelsea butts up against dumpy discount stores, the unassuming brownstone opens its industrial distressed steel doors into a dimly-lit cozy space with a marble-topped bar, large-planked wood floors, exposed brick and cushy banquette seating that mirrors the unadulterated comfort-food nature of the menu. Offerings including sweet thin prosciutto with figs and Parmesan cheese, smooth and flavorful crabmeat agnolotti with carrot butter and tender veal with prosciutto, sage and tomatoes are nothing short of clean and polished finesse. Top it all off with a sweet such as sinfully rich chocolate pot de creme with cherries or tangy buttermilk panna cotta with roasted peaches and revel in overstuffed bliss, too high on food to notice the lightness of your wallet. -- Amanda Dorato

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!
By Dburman5 on 06/03/2008
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. This was my third time there and again, everything was perfect, including service. There meatballs are the best I've ever had and the eggplant caponata is out of this world. All pasta dishes have been excellent and everything has been cooked perfectly! I can't say enough about how much I love this restaurant. The back outside garden area is a beautiful setting and the indoor decor is charming. You won't be disappointed.

The Best

Crispo is my favorite restaurant in all of New York City. Service is dramatically worse than when it opened, but the neighborhhod atmosphere and phenomenal food at great prices outweighs that single flaw.

Our meals were outstanding, loved dining in the outside court yard. Great recommendation from the chef's cousin. It has our "stamp of approval". Don't miss out!!

Outstanding

This restaurant is the first I've ever taken the time to write a review about. It seems that eating out in general is a disappointment -- but Crispo was anything but. Their pasta dishes are awesome - and they have such flavor you can't get enough. Their creme brulee was the best I've ever had too. And to top it off, their staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was comfortable. This is the first restaurant I'll say I can't wait to go back!
