It's easy to overlook this quaint restaurant nestled in a mom-and-pop-type pizza shop area of Brooklyn's Park Slope. With a kind of mystic, unassuming exterior and a small wooden sign hanging from the door, Convivium Osteria opens up to reveal a rustic spot with all sorts of pots, pans and the occasional gardening tool hanging from the wall. A few wooden tables fill the area, and candlelight adds to the restaurant's homey charm. The menu presents a bit of a challenge. Spanish, Italian and Portuguese dishes offer a variety of tasty options, from a flavorful chicken liver appetizer to a hearty veal shank entree for two. And the wine list, which is pages long, takes time to peruse. Don't be shy about asking your waitress to translate the menu (no one wants cured, smoked pig when they're expecting oysters), and make sure to hit the ATM before stopping in; the restaurant takes cash only. -- Rachel O'Malley

Tapas to die for
By tptinc451 on 08/27/2004
You enter into an old taverna somewhere in Portugal. Your first order is the plate of seafood tapas for 2 -- just the dish to share with your favorite person. Then you choose from their extensive wine list -- great Portugese wines for reasonable prices. If you're lucky, you get to sit in the garden on a cool summer evening or in the wine cellar on a cold winter evening. Either way, you'll enjoy the food, atmosphere and service!

great place

It's a great place. Try Sardinian wines, prawns, duckling ravioli, angus steak, etc. One more -- the initial review is incorrect -- they do accept all major credit cards.

It is really amazing how much park slope has cleaned up. I've lived here all my life and I've seen it from bad to good. Park slope has become a great area to live in, especially if for people who kids. You can tell park slope is a growing community by how much the houses around here is worth.
