Closed as of April 2006You'd think that a place named Hog Pit would be piggybacking on the success of nearby Hogs and Heifers. This country-style joint, however, provides a service to those in a western mood by serving a full menu of barbecue. Adorned with mounted hogs' heads and motorcycle gas tanks, Hog Pit has a raw-wood, honky-stompin' air about it, although the clientele often looks more casual Friday than Easy Rider. Still, they do have the right setup: back room with pool table, pinball machine and country jukebox; and picnic tables on which to shred your ribs, chicken or pork with sauce-faced abandon. Beer and booze is Brooklyn-priced, attitude is minimal, and there's plenty of room to park your hog outside, if you have one.

Best BBQ in NYC

The Hog Pit is, hands down, the best BBQ in NYC. With its wide array of Souther comfort cousine and best mac and cheese in the City (as reviewed by Channel 5 news), this cool restaurant/bar is a must-visit.

NJBEACHMAN's Review
By njbeachman on 07/20/2003
I give this place one star because the service was very friendly. The bartender and the bouncer were cool. Other than that, it was extremely boring and drinks were rather expensive. Why pay $3.50 for a domestic beer here, when you could go down to Village Idiot right down the street and get a whole pitcher for $5 in a much more exciting atmosphere? It was a Saturday night and the Hog Pit was dead. My friends and I stayed for one drink and then left. Also, the jukebox is really soft and they seem to play all really slow country crying songs. According to previous reviews, the food is probably pretty good, but I wouldn't plan on coming here to drink for a fun night outing unless you want to fall asleep.
