Closed as of April 2006The Wall Street area is attracting attention for its many new restaurants, yet 14 Wall Street has been located on the 31st floor of a historic building directly across from the New York Stock Exchange for 25 years. Under new owner Gerald Sobol and chef Anthony Greve, this clubby dining roomwith vintage French posters, high ceilings, beautiful dark wood archways and molding, and plenty of space between tablesis doing a contemporary take on French cuisine that should boost the neighborhoods culinary reputation. The consistency of cooking is maintained from appetizers to desserts. The small wine list has some good choices. Crabcakes with celery confit, warm goat cheese on toasted seven- grain bread, roasted duck breast and confit of duck leg with baby turnips, cod (on a bed of braised leeks, Swiss chard and fried wonton of brandade), pear poached in red wine with cinnamon ice cream and marjolaines, melted chocolate banana cake.
