Mixing together her Japanese heritage, French Culinary Institute education and heavyweight influences like Gramercy Tavern's Tom Colicchio, Chika Tillman brings a sushi-style dessert bar to life. Self-proclaimed as the first of its kind in New York City, ChikaLicious (pronounced chee-kah-lish-es) sweetens the East Village with its sophisticated, upscale dessert-only menu. Wine parings are suggested for each item, and there are also organic coffee and tea accompaniments. Minimalism is not a strong enough word to convey the eatery's stark white interior, which is devoid of any decorative accents. The white serves as a fittingly subservient backdrop to the diva desserts, which boast vivid hues, like blackberry compote atop chocolate caba au rhum. The best seat is at the bar where patrons can watch their handcrafted desserts take shape before their widening eyes. For serious dessert aficionados, the three-course prix fixe menu, which includes an 'amuse' (appetizer), entree dessert and assorted petit fours definitely takes the cake. -- Ashley Lederer

Perfection
By monique237 on 11/26/2007
On a beautifully sunny New York City day in early august I was introduced by friends to what will forever be a favorite addiction ChickaLicious Dessert Bar located at 203 E. 10th Street (at 2nd ave.). That day I indulged in the very reasonably priced 3 course Prix Fixe menu not once but twice as I brought my mother back later that evening to delight in the heavenly treats. The experience was wonderfully mind blowing as my palate was enchanted by light, clean, fresh flavors it had never had the opportunity to experience before. The experience is not complete without the perfectly chosen wine pairings that don't simply compliment the desserts but actually augment them. It has quickly become my favorite place, the train ride no longer seems extended because as the streets whiz by I dream about poached fruits, brioche bread puddings, ginger biscuits with caramel sorbet in lime soup and of course of my favorite the Basil sorbet. I can't seem to stop myself from telling others about it and when asked how it is I always reply the same way, "It was Perfect." So now after what must be countless visits I felt it was only fitting to share with others the Joy of Chikalicious.

This is a great place to go if you want dessert but dont really have the room. It is overly satisfying and always has unique little yummy things. It can sometimes be hard to get a table.

I LOVE Chikalicious. It is by far, one of my favorite places in the city. It is not a place for the non-gourmet or for those of large appetites, but overall is a great experience. Seating is limited, so try to get there a little early. Wonderful desserts, and worth every bite. Go try!
