Rate and Write a Review The well-named Carne Vale -- which means both 'village of meat' and a carnival-type celebration -- is a zesty Brazilian churrascaria in the East Village. It goes against the traditional steakhouse mold by dropping the darker, heavy stuffiness in favor of a brighter, lighter and more playful menu and atmosphere. The vibe is South Beach, with a zebra wood bar and a lovely backyard patio with flowers and imported Brazilian stone. Chef Diego Silva, hailing from Belo Horizonte in Brazil, and the kitchens of BLT and Churrascaria Plataforma in New York, does not offer a menu but an order: expect steak runners to scurry to your table and offer you all-you-can-eat skewers of 16 different cuts of meat. Try top sirloin to flank to ribeye to Italian sausages, bathed in vinaigrette and pepper and pineapple sauces. A salad bar compliments with shrimp, sushi and fresh oysters. After midnight, the restaurant really sizzles, turning into a club-lounge, with live DJs, samba dancers and percussionists. Either way you undress it, Carne Vale is a fleshy affair.
