With its low-maintenance vibe punctuated by plastic garden chairs, wooden deck flooring and beer specials, this Tribeca joint doesn't need any gimmicks to stand out from its neighbors. Sandwiched between an open-air garage and an upscale sports car retail outlet, Buster's owners (who also own Freight 410 in Chelsea Market) converted an auto body repair shop into a tangible refuge from pretension. Happily, the food gets a bit more attention than the decor. Executive chef Matthew J. Miluk has created a meaty "hot BBQ" menu with plenty of popular Creole digressions like Joe's jambalaya, pecan crusted 'gator fingers, and "cranky" crawfish cakes. Although it shouldn't be pigeonholed as a sports bar, Buster's is the kind of place where the game is always on, voices are loud and exuberant, and rock 'n' roll blares from the jukebox in the background. -- Ashley Lederer

DON'T BOTHER

Visited this establishment with a couple of friends and found the service and hospitality to be totally lacking, the beer warm and the hot food cold. The atmosphere was likewise cold and drafty and it was hard to get a decent view of any of the games on the screens. There are much better options out there.
