What out-of-towners don't get about New York is just how American it is. Not just melting-pot, Ellis Island American, but Norman Rockwell, Wonder Bread American. Case in point: this clapboard firehouse converted into an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. It sits right on the pier where Walt Whitman used to catch the Fulton Ferry to Manhattan. It is a place for tourists and natives alike to contemplate the majesty of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline with the aid of a creamy frozen confection. It's also the ideal terminus for any date involving pizza at Grimaldi's or a stroll along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. But don't go expecting the works. This ain't no 31 flavors. Your choice of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, peach, butter-pecan coffee or chocolate chunk is available in a cup or cone or as a sundae or shake. At $3 for a one-scoop cone, it's a little pricey, but you're not just paying for parts and labor, you're paying for the view. It's worth it.

Great tasting Ice Cream

Although there ice cream flavors are limited, the flavors that they do have are great. Located in the Dumbo section, hard on parking, but well worth the trouble. Delicious and creamy, pricey, but worth it.
