Rate and Write a Review Perhaps the most exotic of Danny Meyer's popular New York restaurants (which include Union Square Cafe and Gramercy Tavern), Tabla is a splendid fusion of fresh American cuisine with Indian herbs and spices. The main section of the Flatiron district-eatery is on the second floor, above what is known as the Bread Bar, a mini-sampling of the Delhi delights served above. The interior is warm and designed with the bright and exotic color palette one associates with India, which is a good thing since it offsets the jet-black fashion stylings of most of the patrons (which include professionals, couples, celebrating groups and hipsters.) Executive chef Floyd Cardoz continues to fascinate his dedicated following with engaging aromas and innovative combinations. Dinner (most people go for the seven-course tasting menu) includes a gleeful Goan-spiced Maine lobster, Niman Ranch pork chop and a chile-roasted poussin that will make your mouth water. Between the bustling bar downstairs, the eclectic menu upstairs, and the pop-pleasing aesthetic, this may be the best pseudo-Indian meal west of Bombay. -- Yon Motskin
