very chique but casual 12/23/2007

Was taken there by my daughter who is a professional chef and graduated the same culinary school as Bobby Flay. The preparation and presentation of the food was excellent and the service was friendly and attentive.

EXCEPTIONAL 07/15/2007

I loved this place. Very polite and attentive wait staff. Excellent signiture drinks like the whiskey smask, and the food was out of this world.

Can't wait to go back 02/20/2007

I came here with my parents and so glad I made the right choice. The dinner was fun and the food was fabulous. We could have just been happy eating all the apps. The grilled pizza was a winner. We even ordered another one, it was that good. We also loved the hot blue cheese and chips. Even the bread basket was great. For dinner, we had the skate (I don't even like fish and I devoured my mom's dish), ribeye and snapper. No room for dessert. Have to go back.

As Good As It Gets 01/28/2007

Not sure what restauant these other people were at,but Bar Americain has great food combined with great service. A truly wonderful dining experience including a magnificent, imaginative vegetarian plate for my daughter.

Fair at Best 05/15/2006

The food was fair at best - nothing exciting. The service was the worst service I have ever, ever experienced. The food was cold and took over an hour to get our entrees. Go to TAO instead, which we thought was fabulous. Bar Americain was a major disappointment.

Indifferent / Rude service 09/25/2005

Cold food and a rude waiter will be what i remember most about this restaurant. A major dissapointment. Skip it.

While lacking the culinary distinction of Bolo or Mesa Grill, Bar Americain is a cool, fun place to dine. Well designed, the big room is quite comfortable with the six big round tables mirrored overhead by the sound absorbing light fixtures representing the best seating choice. The up the middle menu features well-executed meats ( steaks are good, lamb porterhouse better) and fish. The sides are better than average. All meals should start with the potato chips and at least one member of your party should finish with the whiskey eclairs-enough for 4.

We were delighted to see a celebrity chef actually in the kitchen until it became apparent that he was there to stem the chaos. The staff/floor managers were rude, the decor was overly theatrical and cold, and the food was uneven. A nifty concept that's poorly executed. Regretably, Bobby Flay seems to be better at cooking up his celebrity. We give the place 6 months.
