The minimalist decor isn't the factor that draws the famous and fat-free to this health-conscious place. Rather, it's menu items like The Oxygenator, a smoothie made from carrots, beets, parsley and cucumber, or "new foo yong," a mix of tofu, organic brown rice, cashews and scallions. Although the spare-looking dining room aims for "Soho chic," it comes off as just plain uncomfortable. But the food is wholesome, delicious and hearty in spite of all the bean sprouts. Breakfast brings choices like "The Don," an omelet with sun-dried tomatoes, smoked mozzarella and pesto. For lunch, there are salads and stir-fries and burgers served many ways. Dinner offerings include chicken mole enchiladas and Hawaiian Waldorf salad with mango, papaya, pineapple and macadamias. One-third of all entrees are vegetarian, all sauces and dressings are meat and dairy free, and in good weather, the tables on the outdoor patio provide a delightful alternative. -- Hiyaguha Cohen (Photo: Noah Kalina)
