With names that spawn inevitable wordplay in their trade, chef Anita Lo and restaurateur Jennifer Scism play a trick of their own: Their upscale, contemporary American restaurant is an oasis of calm and tranquility amid the bustle in downtown New York. Both ladies made impressions at the top-notch Bouley and Chanterelle, and they continue to impress here in terms of atmosphere, decor and cuisine. The cool, airy, sun-splashing dining room is feathered with cream colors, billowing curtains and an overall brooding mood -- think Sting's house outfitted by a Zen Ikea designer. The understated and diminutive menu boasts eclectic seasonal dishes, with hints of Asia and France. Selections like miso marinated sable, grilled shell steak and sauteed skate with avocado drift into your consciousness like a childhood dream. 'Annisa' means 'women' in Arabic so it's no wonder that females dominate; one of the few men here is Roger Dagorn, who belongs to a world-class tribe of elite sommeliers and presides over the eatery's unique cellar. -- Yon Motskin

worth the trip

my partner and i took a ride from philly to new york to meet our good friend.we took her to dinner here.we had tried to get here before but no luck.we own a restaurant in philly so we know how hard this business is.but annisa makes you know its all worth it.the food was highest quality and very original without being pretentious.the waiter we had was one of the best i've come across.he took so much time with us and all our questions and you could see he was not a salesperson.he really tdid like the food he talked about.service was just so great and so was food.will definetly go back.

EXCELLENT All Around

From the waitstaff to the food. All was great. And ordering was easy/the food was tasty & fresh. It is great for a date or a spontaneous walk-by. It is great to go to a place where the chef is actually cooking.
