There's no guarantee you'll see Al Pacino, Meryl Streep or Lauren Bacall at Angus McIndoe, but they've been there -- as have droves of other hungry and thirsty thespians, theatergoers and journalists. Part of the attraction is the eatery's location, smack-dab in the middle of the Theater Distict. The slightly hidden entrance, down a mini-alley draped in ivy and set with a couple of outside tables, gives the place something of an old-time speakeasy feel. Inside, a snug, clubby ambience prevails. The namesake proprietor (pronounced "MacIndoo") was formerly the maitre d' at Joe Allen's, and his theatrical friends helped get this joint off the ground: Early investors included Mel Brooks, Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Miramax's Weinstein brothers. With an all-day breakfast menu and acclaimed raw bar, McIndoe looks set to run even longer than his next-door neighbors -- 'The Producers' -- at the St. James Theatre. -- Rhonda Markowitz

Nothing Bad To Say
By sexylinz522 on 09/17/2004
After trying to go to another restaurant nearby that had too long of a wait, we spontaneously decided to try this place out. Menu looked good, offered lots of choices, and was reasonable in price (for the city). Overall the food was good, as was the service. I cannot really think of anything bad to say about it. It has a cozy, dim-lit setting. Considers it's cuisine to be "American, Eclectic", but I also got an Irish vibe.
