Approaching Yankee Stadium, baseball fans -- even Red Sox fans -- can't help but feel a sense of reverence. This is a building that has hosted some of baseball's finest moments. Countless baseball legends have passed through these doors, and one can sense that history in everything from the architecture of the building to the echoes of the crowd in the streets of the Bronx. When the Yankees take the field, there's nothing like it. Hot dogs taste different here -- special. Starting players wave as the bleacher creatures chant their names. But if it's your first visit to Yankee Stadium, definitely take the tour of Monument Park, where you can find plaques and memorials for Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio and other Yankee immortals. The park is open to the public before each game, up until 30 minutes before the first pitch. Tickets are usually available on game day at the box office, but games against certain teams (e.g., Red Sox, Mets and Braves) and special occasions like opening day do sell out well in advance. -- Dan Lemmey Best Bet for Parking: If you're going to drive to the stadium, you better park it at one of the many secured parking garages around the stadium. You'll find parking garages within a short walk of the stadium at 161st and 162nd at Jerome Ave. or along River Ave. at 151st, 153rd, 157th, 158th and at 164th and 165th Streets. Best Ways to Get to the Stadium: Save yourself the hassle of driving and parking and take the subway. Take the #4 train or the B, on weekdays only, and D trains to the 161st Street station. Several buses, including the BX 6, BX 13, and BX 55, make stops at 161st Street and Grand Concourse, which is a short walk to the stadium. New York Waterway also offers ferry trips to the stadium on the Yankee Clipper. Best Food at the Stadium: Inside the stadium, go for the sausage with sweet peppers and onions. Outside the stadium, go to one of the many hot pretzel carts and ask for the spicy mustard or just head into one of the sports bars for wings and beer.

Yankee Stadium needs to be Replaced
By Ladymac1957 on 09/23/2008
Yankee Stadium indeed needs to be replaced,Its aisles are small and its seats are cramped. Its renovation in 1973 most likely sealed its doom with todays ballparks. But Fenway Park in Boston is one that should never be torn down making you feel so close to the game,And so many of todays new parks are copied after that old ball park.I have been to both ball parks and the Upper deck of Yankee Stadium made me feel scared where i can see it will never measure up to the newer stadiums of today.

Awesome

I am from Ohio. I was lucky enough to secure a ticket to the All-Star Game this year at Yankee Stadium. I never liked the Yankees except for Mickey Mantle. He was my all-time favorite player. With all the history of Yankee Stadium, I felt like I was entering a shrine. Just the sight of it made me tingle. I loved it. The only negative was when we entered the stadium, I had a small canvas bag with me. I had my peanuts, radio, and scorebook in it. I have been to 8 or 9 major league parks and never had a problem with it. When we entered, I opened the bag to show the lady the contents. She instructed me to see the man who was about 15 feet from us. I thought he was going to search it or me. He told me to 'step over there'. When I did, he closed the gate and I found myself outside the stadium without an explanation. When I questioned him he told me that bags weren't allowed in. That was fine. I got rid of the bag (actually put it in my back pocket) and then was allowed in. I was a bit peeved that they treated me like that instead of telling me what they were doing. I am 61 years old....not a punk. Oh well, I saw a great game.
