The old Living Room on Allen and Stanton had such dedicated regulars, it seemed like they took the living room thing a bit too literally. That was easy to do: The place was so welcoming and lived-in, patrons sometimes ended up taking naps. With regular acts like Norah Jones and Jesse Harris, The Living Room got a lot of attention, and soon the small spot was busting at the seams, a victim of its own popularity. "We wanted to be able to accommodate performers with bigger audiences," says owner Jennifer Gilson, "but we wanted to stay in the neighborhood." The new space is a score: Two floors with a large performance room and an upstairs lounge, situated on the busiest block on the LES. Of course, it's not as intimate as before, but the vibe is still familial and the sound is fashioned for professionals. -- Dan Glass

The place was uncomfortably cramped. One drink of anything costs between $6 to $8 each. Extremely overpriced!!! You may like this place if you're rich and snobby.
