Speaking with Fresh Cream's proprietor or maitre d', you might never guess how renowned an establishment it actually is. Service is warm, friendly and personalized, but top-notch assistance is only part of the package. There's also the view of the water, the simple yet lovely decor and the superb French cuisine. The executive chef knows his way around fresh seafood, prime beef and all of those rich, decadent sauces that make French cooking so delightful. Fresh Cream serves all the classics. Start with lobster bisque, pate or escargot. Progress to roast duck in black currant sauce or filet mignon with portobello mushrooms. Finish off the meal in just the right way: with an exquisitely light and delicate souffle. San Francisco foodies have voted this establishment number one in the peninsula for two decades. It's in a commercial complex right above the wharf -- make your way back past the stone ornamental fountain, and go upstairs.
