Rate and Write a Review Before it was Club Octane, this popular dance club was McGarrett's for more than 20 years -- and it had a loyal following. The owner decided to retire and sold the space to Taylor Wolfsen, aka DJ Taylor, who has been throwing wildly popular parties with a group of DJs in the Santa Cruz area for a few years. Taylor and his DJ friends had grand dreams for the space, which have largely come true; but not without a little misery courtesy of the local government's permit police. The club finally opened in late September, revealing a stunning renovation job. Taylor wanted to give the space an Ibiza feel, with over-the-top light shows and lots of props. Everything has been updated -- from the lights to the sound system. More than 500 people can pack into the 10,000-square-foot space, which is divided into two floors. In total, the club has three dance floors and four fully stocked bars -- and one room just for smokers. Expect to hear each and every house sub-genre at this club, including ambient, techno and drum and bass. Taylor's also planning to use the club as the location for a TV show called "House Party USA," which will be filmed on Tuesday nights and aired nationally on Fridays. Come prepared for a strict dress code and a hefty cover charge.
