The Great Gyro Debate has raged on the East Side for years, but it's still hard to determine just which Greek restaurant has the best. Oakland Gyros is definitely in the running. Ample portions of meat swimming in cucumber dressing atop a warm pita make for one tasty Greek sandwich. Gyros are the big draw, especially with the late night post-bar crowd, but the place has a full menu that includes burgers, spinach pie and mammoth Greek salads. Oakland Gyros is an economical food option for the many University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee students in the area and any other East Side types wanting to pick up a quick meal. The fast-food setting of booths and small tables welcomes you no matter how casually you're dressed, and the view of the bustling (and eclectic) intersection of Locust and Oakland is always entertaining. The battle for gyro supremacy on the East Side won't end soon; it takes years of diligent sampling to determine who's serving the best. -- SM

Great food, staff and prices

My freshman year at UWM my dad was driving me and all my stuff up and he said he would go there someday. He came to get me one weekend to go home and we stopped and I have been hooked ever since. The gyro just huge; tons of meat and the sause is excellent. Now I live up here and have a car of my own but when I do come home my dad always has me bring home gyros, not just for the family but if i head back in the afternoon i gotta buy about 15-20 everytime for everyone at his office. The staff there knows when I come in to order that many that they're going on a 2 hour car ride so they always put them in a box and put some kinda of towel around them to help keep them warm. I just cant say enough about the place.

Best gyros ever

This is by far the best gyros I've ever had. Everything tastes fresh and delicious. Huge servings make for good leftovers or enough to share. And as far as the comment about peeing on the parking checkers food, that only makes it better in my book. Screw those pavement nazis.

my friend Courtney turned me on to this place, outstanding, the best gyros i"ve ever had next to Munster Gyros....but thats a 2 hour drive to indiana.......an hour if she is driving

RUDE SERVICE

My last visit, owners SON said that if the Parking Checker ever stopped in, "I would pee on your food!" 'nuf said. I left without buying my order. Didn't know what they had done, didn't care. Sorry, food great if staff isn't mad about something.
