new place a few blocks east 04/17/2007
Robert Ucan, former chef and owner of the Gypsy, has opened a new, smaller cafe just up Market St, on the north side. Check it out.
yucky yucatan 02/22/2007
would someone please explain the raves for the tasteless vegetables? could it be that louisville diners are simply so culture-starved that they will do cartwheels over anything obscure and mysterious, regardless of its merits? the best of yucatan cuisine can be transporting. too bad we'll never experience here.
It's OK... 01/05/2007
The food is okay, nothing spectacular. The few times I've been there the service has been fair...friendly but slow. I only return when someone else suggests it for a "different" lunch locale.

It should have 4.5 stars. Quality ingredients, unique tastes, service and interesting beer selection all combine to make this a pleasant dining spot.

This is a wonderful place, different in most respects from any other in Louisville. I don't know who decided that this restaurant should be classified as "Mexican" because that would probably mislead most folks. This unusual restaurant serves beverages and food that I have never seen in any restaurant, let alone a "Mexican" establishment. If people expect Tex-Mex, the Mayan Gypsy will not meet those expectations. Nor should it.

Fabulous food. I particularly liked the seafood bisque. (Don't remember the Mayan name.) It was without a doubt the best I have ever had. Someone asked about vegetarian items. I had a dish that was mainly mushrooms and eggplant that was delicious. This was on May 9, 2001
