It's all about the slippery shrimp at Yang Chow. Customers flood the place specifically to gobble up the signature dish of lightly breaded shrimps with an orange, sweet and slightly spicy taste. Dry, sauteed green beans with minced pork are another house specialty, and Yang Chow is also highly regarded for pan-fried dumplings, moo shu and spicy won-tons filled with pork. The menu of Mandarin and Szechwan-derived items is diverse and includes all the Chinese standbys: pan-fried noodles, fried rice, all kinds of beef, chicken, pork and veggie items. There's also a wide selection of seafood items including Kung Pao fresh Conch, jellyfish, sauteed clams, lemon scallops and stewed sea cucumber with shrimp eggs. And unlike a lot of Chinese restaurants where you have to go on a heat-seeking mission to find a morsel of meat or shellfish piled under veggies and garnish, at Yang Chow, you'll never have to take out your magnifying glass to find a shrimp again. -- Lydia Marcus

LA's Best Chinese Restaurant - Yang Chow
By MKByrd on 06/09/2008
I've been eating at Yang Chow for over 15 years and I've never found a restaurant that serves better soups, steamed dumplings or pan fried noodles. Then of course there is Slippery Shrimp! 95% of customers order this dish - there must be a reason. The employees are wonderful - including William and the owners. I moved to North Carolina however, every time I'm in Los Angeles - or Pasadena - we always go to Yang Chow!!! If there is a better Chinese restaurant - I've not found it.
