From the man who brought us the windblown jazz classic 'A Taste of Honey' comes this fusion of chop house and jazz club at the top of Beverly Glen. Pairing up with Pasadena's Parkway Grill/Arroyo Chop House team, the Smith brothers, legendary trumpeteer Herb Alpert brings a reputation and many established jazz acts to play duets alongside a menu mostly consumed with American classics in their own right -- steaks, short ribs and thick-cut chops. It's a virtual rarity to find a restaurant in LA that features live jazz music every night of the week (except Monday, when they're closed), a fact that makes this urban-feeling destination oddly appealing. Unfortunately, you have to head for the hills if you want to get there, as it's tucked away in a small shopping center (next to a pet store of all places) up near Mulholland. In semi-circular space that is adorned with high-ceilings and two levels of banquettes, Vibrato's center stage is visited by local top pianists, trios and quartets, such as Chuck Mangione and trombonist Bob McChesney. Meanwhile, enjoy dishes such as diver scallops and the seafood stew as three bronze sculptures of jazz gods Tyree Glenn, Barney Bigard and big-cheeked Satchmo, Louis Armstrong look on above the bar.

wow, never seen so many people who have been able to tour the kitchen to then declare it filthy.........must be some other restaurant owners tagging this place down? let me give a fresh taste for you, i just walked out after a nice night seeing corky hale ( whose husband happens to be mike stoller). -The wine list is well thought and runs the gamut. -The menu has something for everyone. -The prices are in line with most other nice steak house type places - you get the music for free and it is a high caliber, all the seats are well set for a view, acoustics are great and lighting perfect, not glaring, not cave like. -most jazz places charge 10-20 just to get in the door and you do not get any better level of music AT ALL. drive up the canyon and make up your own mind.
