Some regulars call the chef at The Coffee Table Silverlake's version of the Seinfeld soup Nazi, and his spicy corn chowder, potato leek, vegetarian vegetable, and chicken curry are much in demand. The works of Silverlake artists hang on the walls of this neighborhood comfort-food stop. Lunch features sandwiches and salads, and dinner includes such specials as stuffed chicken and crab cakes. The scones, muffins and cookies are hard to resist and the coffee concoctions are tops.

Based on the previous ratings, I thought I would be entertained by both a colorful locale and an epicurian delight. I found neither.
Carmel latte - frothy and flavourless.
Hot Chai - Okay if you like lukewarm powdered mixes, with the mix still on the brim of the cup.
soup -- we wanted minestroni, but they used chicken stock, we went for the vegetable. Unforetunately, the bowl came have empty, or half full if you're an optimist, and again, tepid.
Roast turkey sandwich -- the bread was warm, but not the meat, though, the flavour was good.
The spinach salad was the star. It was fresh, the spinach was abundant, the crumbled cheese, red onions and bacon were plentiful and prepared well. The dressing was a tasty vinagrette.
As for the service -- slow, slow, slow. It's a great place to go if you have time to spare and a few freinds to catch up with, otherwise, skip.
