Every city has that one restaurant that everyone, well, just knows, whether they've actually been there or not, and The Castaway, for Burbank, is such a restaurant. But it's more than likely that most denizens of Burbank have been to The Castaway, if the dozens of big, family-ready tables are any judge. The vaguely nautically themed spot has also been the scene of many a party, be it a film wrap or office holiday shindig, not to mention the weekly brunch the restaurant hosts. For while the bar is fully stocked and the fire-pit laden deck boasts breathtaking vistas, brunch is the one thing that most folks associate with the cheerful hillside eatery that feels more oceany on the inside than some surfside spots. And why shouldn't brunchers return again and again? With food tables spread out over three rooms -- salads in the main room, desserts in the front and hot stations, sushi and lunch foods near the bar -- The Castaway has become one of the Valley's premier Sunday dining destinations. Champagne reappears in your glass as you make the trek back to your table after your second -- third -- fourth? -- trip to the shrimp table or omelet station. And while brunch can sometimes be a stiff, overly elegant affair at some spots, the vibe at The Castaway is California dressy-casual, the better to play a few rounds at the golf course below after brunch is over.

Horrible...No rational person would ever pick this spot as one of the city's best and rated it higher than Joe's or Campanile. Change the editor................

HORRIBLE SERVICE VIA HOSTESS
By kssnanthony on 03/27/2006
I CALLED TO MAKE A DINNER RESERVATION A FEW MONTHS PRIOR. THE WHOLE TIME ON THE LINE I COULD HEAR THE HOSTESS GIGGLING IN COVERSATION WITH ANOTHER EMPLOYEE. I HAD A FEELING MY RESERVATION WAS NOT LOGGED SO I CALLED BACK WITHIN THE NEXT 30 MINUTES. I ASKED THE SAME HOSTESS I HAD SPOKE TO EARLIER TO CONFIRM MY RESERVATION AND JUST AS I THOUGHT IT WAS NOT EVEN LOGGED. WORST OF ALL THE GIRL WAS SNOBBY, NEVER BOTHERING TO APOLOGIZE FOR HER TONE. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO HER SUPERVISOR SHE HUNG UP THE PHONE ON ME!!!!

great view

I went here for the first time last year for a small birthday dinner. we made a reservation but were not seated until about 45 minutes later and the hostesses were very rude. that was not a very good first impression but later when we were seated after waiting forever, our waitress was the sweetest woman ever so that made up for it. the service was great, the food was pretty good, and the view at night is amazing. make sure to ask for window seating. I would definitely go back.
