At an address that might as well be called "the revolving door," Sopra throws its small plates into the ring, trying to succeed where other less fortunate concepts have failed. Inside an eclectic interior done up by an art deco lighting scheme are booths that are almost too spacious and a spectacular floor-to-ceiling view of the Hollywood Hills: a perk that has always separated this spot from more down-to-earth, street-side locations in this area. On a menu that begs to be popular with the ADD culture, Sopra serves a blend of cold and hot "spuntini" (Italian tapas) such as grilled artichoke, pork sausage with arugula, lightly fried tiger shrimps and perhaps the best of the bunch, a sliced balsamic-marinated hangar steak. Italian and California wines are available for tasting, as are cocktails like the espresso martini or strawberry sour. Bringing a family name familiar to the LA dining scene is Oliver de Mori, who can be seen working his way through the dining room, schmoozing guests and making sure they feel taken care of. Who knows, he might even share a glass of port with you after the meal.

Romantic and great food
By tommy91603 on 12/29/2006
I though this was one of the best restaurant I've been to in a while! The atmosphere was really festive and surely romantic whith a great view of the Hollywood Hills. Service was friendly and the food excellent (we tried the pasta with meat sauce, porterhouse special and pork loin). I would certainly recommend trying this restaurant to anyone who loves authentic Italian food.

Who voted on this place?
By ggourrier on 12/27/2006
I usually don't type reviews but I had to for this one!! First, we went to this restaurant because it was nominated for most romantic. We have visited many "nominated" restaurants and was very impressed so we figured that this was a win-win situation. Unfortunately, we lost!! The food was bland and scarce. I had to take the pesto for the bread, along with the side order of asparagus and mozarella, and mix it with my shrimp pasta in order to get any taste..and I am not even picky! Their drinks were overpriced and the service....close to horrible. As for the atmosphere, it was nice but a little cheap and very small. The pictures on their website look nothing like the actual location. We will NOT be returning to this place!! I can't believe that it is in the same category as Yamashiros!! As for the reviews on this site, I would say that were "planted" by employees of Sopra. For a more rounded viewpoint, visit http://losangeles.citysearch.com.

Jet Set Hang Out

Judging from the very international crowd at Sopra, I've stumbled upon something very good! The food was excellent, the staff was superb and the restaurant is very sharp and sleek, just like its customers. The bar is a great place to meet glamorous people, no two from the same country. I'm looking forward to my next meal at Sopra....oh wait, it's tonight!!

Great food, beautiful view!
By flat2la on 01/26/2006
A group of fiveof us went last night to Sopra. This beautiful space with nice heated balcony seating offers a great view of the Hollywood hills. We had Spuntino di Acciughe (white Spanish anchovies with olive oil lemon juice and potatoes): Delicious, the anchovies were not salty at all and melted in your mouth. Insalata di Burrata (burrata cheese with truffle dressing and arugula salad): Light, very fresh burrata. Porcini Ravioli (ravioli, porcini and basil): My favorite. The Porcini flavor mixed with a light creamy sauce is out of this world. Anatra con Funghi (duck breast, porcini sauce, poached romana): Duck was tender but still with a nice bite to it. Cooked to perfection and accompanied with a delicious wine reduction. The service was a bit slow but they were extremely busy. The owner, Oliver, came to our table and apologize, offering us some nice Italian sweet wine. The bar was definitely happening as we left the restaurant. I certainly recommend this new restaurant. We will go back.
