Rate and Write a Review Norman van Aken, the culinary king of South Florida, touches down in Los Angeles, bringing a myriad of singularly delightful flavors along with him. If you're a foodie, you may already know of him, either from eating at his famous Coral Gables restaurant or catching one of the various glossy-mag or televised paeans to his "New World" cooking. Colorful, inventive and extravagant, this is the epitome of fusion fare. Caribbean, Latin American and Pan-Asian influences are abundant. On the day's menu, you might find pad Thai with fresh grilled fish, pan-seared beef tenderloin, Peruvian-style seafood stew, tuna tartare or lobster poststickers. Van Aken's West Hollywood venture is a stunning, multi-million dollar affair, all stainless steel and floor-to-ceiling glass, in the new Sunset Millennium complex. Clearly he intends to make a splash and he's going about it the right way. However, it remains to be seen whether or not Norman will become as much of a local darling as neighbors Wolfgang, Nobu and Joachim Splichal.
