Rate and Write a Review Jesucita Mijares' motto was always, "mi casa es tu casa," a maxim her family continues to stick by in order to run this successful neighborhood restaurant. Jesucita first opened her doors to the people of Pasadena over 80 years ago when she launched a small tortilla factory featuring her tamales and special sauces made with a metate stone grinder. Nowadays, Mijares the restaurant boasts one of the finest Sunday brunches in town, with mouthwatering omelettes made right in front of you, freshly made tamales and, for those who enjoyed the previous night a little too much, menudo, the storied hangover cure. The restaurant's daily menu includes house specials such as chile colorado (pork smothered in a spicy sauce), arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) and carnitas a la Antonio (traditional pork). Before the main course arrives, Mijares offers treats such as sopa de tortilla (tortilla soup) and sopa de albondigas (meatball soup). Make sure to save room for such traditional desserts as bunuelos and flan. Those who wish to pair the meal up with an authentic Mexican drink can choose from a wide selection of fine, south-of-the-border tequilas or flavorful margaritas -- that is, if the menudo has done its job. Finally, there's a trio of roving musicians in-house, who decorate Mijares' atmosphere with live performances of classics such as 'Malaguena Salerosa' or 'La Llorona.' -- Robert Nunez
