Sometimes sushi begs to be kicked up a notch. With offerings like firecracker salad, firefish (yellowtail sashimi and jalapenos) and more ubiquitous spicy tuna rolls, this Eagle Rock restaurant with the manicured patio garden honors the gods of flavor. Light-carrying Buddha statues overlook the sushi counter where rolls have regional names created like odes to the area owner Rudy Martinez calls home. He puts a lot of himself in the restaurant. His business is next door and the eponymous Mia roll is named after his daughter. The Oxy Roll with salmon, shrimp and white fish is a nod to the nearby campus and the Mt. Washington roll (crab, cream cheese, freshwater eel and avocado topping) is all about good living.
