After a lifetime working the LA dining circuit, including two years at uber-chic Linq, chef Andre Guerrero has settled into his own groove at the Valley's restaurant row. Teaming up with former Saddle Peak Lodge manager, Michael Lamb, the duo has opened Max, a California-Asian fusion bistro destined to reinvigorate a popular yet over-saturated cuisine style. Technically, it's a California-Asian menu, but specifically, you'll find inklings of Indian with surprises like coriander masala-crusted cod and even a touch of Filipino, represented by a luscious lumpia. Starters range from sashimi and spring rolls, to the livery foie gras. Mushroom risotto with duck and arugula, bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin, sesame-crusted ahi and roasted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes are some of the more popular entrees. Desserts include chocolate souffle, pastries and tangy fruit-based concoctions depending on what's seasonal.

Delicious! Love the Lumpia
By cheekers91423 on 09/27/2006
Food was delicious. Menu is short and would have loved to seen more choices since the food was so creative. But all was excellent. Had the Cod, lumpia appetizers and seared ahi. Very refreshing choices (as compared to the standard offerings in restaurants). Service could be a little better....on a slow night I guess the wait staff decided to take it easy. But I would go back....dying to try the Hudson Valley FG.

Good choice

Except for an unremarkable seafood ravioli appetiser, evrything was good, sevice friendy and good. Ahi appetiser and main dish, pepper steak, seabass all very good. Fabulous apple dessert, Max herbal tea was nice too. Good presentation of dishes, upscale but not pretentious.

worth an evening out.

The food was all right, pretty good; butter fish was amazing. but in my opinion cafe bizou down the street had a richer palate... travel a bit down ventura and get more bang for your buck at an equally shee shee restaurant.. and perhaps even nicer atmosphere at bizou.
