If you're picturing a voluptuous J.Lo slaving over an open kitchen, think again; Madre's is all about glamour, Puerto Rican flair and a simple Hollywood vibe. The setting is far more Laura Ashley than Latin flambe, as the interior includes everything from dainty table linens to vintage cutlery and china. The decor comes compliments of decorator extraordinaire Rachel Ashwell, known for her Shabby Chic label, which offers British flair through vintage style, antiques and garage sale bargains. What Madre's offers outside of the obvious fried plantains, savory steaks and tasty Latin cuisine is an upscale supper club atmosphere beyond the inner circle of Hollywood. Surprisingly comfortable and cheerful, Madre's celebrates the spirit of life through beauty rather than haute minimalism. To hear the clang of toasting glasses by such celebrity guests as Nicole Kidman and even owner Jennifer Lopez herself, make Madre's a stop -- if not for the food, for the modest bar that has expanded hours all week. -- Michael Martin

For the past 3 years I have celebrated my birthday at Madres. I love it and the service gets better and better each time. The interior is very glamourous and dainty! The waiters/busboys were very welcoming and very nice. And the bar... MMM!! The Mojitos here are the best! Great service by the bartender and Manager!

Discrimination?
By ruthannetaylor on 12/23/2006
We visited this restaurant to celebrate my husband's promotion. Our teenage sons were dressed in suits and ties and were well-behaved. However, the hostess refused to seat us in the restaurant, where there were available tables, and made us sit in the bar. Also relegated to the bar were a party of African-Americans, a party of Asians, and a group of women. During the evening, we noticed that the only people seated in the restaurant were Caucasion couples. How sad that "Jennie from the Block" allows her restaurant staff to engage in this sort of practice.

Wonderfully impressed

We ( my family) took my mother in law for her 79th birthday. She is puerto rican- she had the paella-- wonderful-- served warm. fresh, had lobster, shrimp, scallops clams, - very authentic cuban/puerto rican cuisine. I highly recommend my dish- which was churrasca steak-- - it was heavenly, seasoned- and just so tender.. we also had the shrimp -- large prawns sauteed in garlic and butter - was sooooo good. Tthe waiter Leo was very nice & professional. The ambience was very classy, clean, fine dining experience. would highly recommend for a intimate date or celebration. it was a fantastic eating experience , and we we definitely return. Only thing is that you must pick your side dishes or you default to the black beans and rice. Great selection of food.
