The crisp-crusted, fresh-from-the-oven pizza served here is nearly as good as you'll find in that other urban jungle, New York City -- or at least, that's what some say. Available by the slice, the pie, or the Sicilian-style square, it's hot and greasy-gooey-cheesy like you love. The place hasn't jumped on the gourmet bandwagon. By-the-slice offerings are few and simple (pepperoni, Hawaiian, cheese), while topping choices for pan pizzas are numerous but not too wildly creative (arugula-and-pine-nut lovers, stay away). In recent years, the owners have added a few other choices to the mostly-pizza menu. The place still doesn't have much to offer in terms of atmosphere, though, so if you want a relaxed meal, you'd best opt for either takeout or delivery. Note: There is another Lamonica's in Westwood, but it has different owners and management. -- Lena Katz

This place is OK--should not be on the Top 10 list by any means.

I love Lamonica's NY Pizza. I think its the best pizza this side of the Mississippi. The one in Downtown is OK, but the one in Westwood (UCLA) is so great. I go there a few times a week and I love it.

As close to NY sicilian as you can get in L.A. Lamonica brings in water from NY that is what makes the dough and crust so good! Their dough is also used in Costco Pizza, but only the dough and not the cooking or pizza technique.
